Blue Jays close to signing Adeinis Hechavarria
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Cuban shortstop's deal with the Yankees may have fallen through, because of a likely contract extension for Derek Jeter. As a result, it seems Toronto is now the front-runner to land him. The deal is reported to be close to $10 million. Like many Cuban defectors, his age is unclear. Initially purported to be 19, now some are saying he may in fact be 21 or older. Is it possible that the Jays have found their shortstop of the future? Actually, they found their shortstop of the future years ago, but traded him for Esteban Loaiza. Still pissed about that.
More details can be found at the Jays' official website.
